About the City Wide Art Contest

In January, the City Wide Art Contest Committee announces a new contest theme and invites Kindergarten through Sixth-grade students from elementary schools within the city to submit original artwork depicting that theme. Contest Guidelines are provided to each school's art teacher/department. The students have until March to complete their submissions.

Around 1,800 - 2,000 contest entries are received from Mason Elementary, Oak Park Elementary School, Laurel Upper Elementary, Laurel Magnet School of the Arts, St. John’s Day School, and Laurel Christian Elementary School.

Artwork is judged by a panel of League members. To determine the winners, there are three rounds of judging. First, second, and third place ribbons were awarded for each grade level at each school during the first round. Then, the first place winners from each school advance to the semifinal round where their entry is judged against others in their grade level from the six other city schools. From these entries, first, second, and third place winners are selected.

Everyone is invited to see the students’ winning artwork on display at the Lauren Rogers Museum of Art in April.

"The Greatest Day I've Ever Had"

Each year we receive around 1,800 entries from Mason Elementary, Oak Park Elementary School, Laurel Upper Elementary, Laurel Magnet School of the Arts, Laurel Middle School, St. John's Day School, and Laurel Christian School.

From these entries, first, second, and third place Overall Winners were selected.
